Overview
About Chilli
The dried ripe fruit of Capsicum, ranging from red peppers and cayenne to paprika and pungent bird chilli. Native to South America, it was introduced to India by the Portuguese in the late 15th century and is now grown worldwide except in colder regions.
Applications & Uses
Extensively used as a spice in curried dishes, curry powders and hot sauces such as Tabasco. Paprika and Byadgi varieties are valued for natural colour extraction. Oleoresin capsicum is used in pain balms; medicinally it is a counter-irritant and tonic.
