Overview
About Turmeric
The boiled, dried, cleaned and polished rhizome of Curcuma longa — an herbaceous perennial 60–90 cm high, native to India. It grows across Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala in light black, clayey and red soils.
Applications & Uses
A principal curry-powder ingredient used to flavour and colour foods; the oleoresin features in pickles and relishes. Curcumin is a natural colorant and textile dye. Medicinally it is a stomachic, carminative, tonic, blood purifier and antiseptic.
